Immanuel Kant

Immanuel KantImmanuel Kant, regarded as the greatest of modern philosophers, gave a new direction to philosophy by showing the limits of knowledge, and by reconciling reason with feeling. The awareness of these limits has opened up new possibilities. As Lyotard says, ‘The name Kant …(is an) … epilogue to modernity, it is also a prologue to postmodernity’. The fascinating aspect of Kant’s ideas is that they are still opening up new vistas in fields ranging from philosophy to psychology and neuroscience. Those influenced by his ideas include Hegel, Schopenhauer, Piaget, Freud, Heidegger, Foucalt and Lyotard.
