Michelangelo
Buonarroti [ 1475 1564 ]
"It
has been said that Michelangelo Buonarotti nailed some
poor man to a board and pierced his heart with a spear, so
as to paint a crucifixion." Francesco Susinno here repeats
an early urban legend about one of the greatest artists of
the Italian Renaissance.
Michelangelo
Ludovico Buonarroti-Simoni sculptor, painter, architect
and poet was considered the greatest living artist in his
lifetime. His practice of several arts, however, was not unusual
in his time. Few artists have been as prolific; fewer still
have succeeded in creating enduring masterpieces in so many
mediums. He would have guaranteed his place in history if
he had produced only the David, or painted the ceiling
of the Sistine Chapel or erected St. Peters. Rather,
he made all three, and each is an ultimate achievement in
the history of human endeavor.
