Born in Richford, Tioga County, New York.
1843 The Rockefellers moved to a farm in Moravia, New York.
1849 Following allegations of rape, Bill and his family moved to Owego, New York.
1853 Moved to Cleveland.
1855 Entered Folsom Mercantile College.
September 26, 1855 Got a job as assistant bookkeeper with Hewitt and Tuttle.
March 18, 1859 Formed Clark and Rockefeller, commission merchants.
1863 Entered oil business, formed Andrews, Clark and Company.
September 8, 1864 Married Laura Celestia Spelman.
1865 Formed Rockefeller and Andrews, Cleveland's largest refinery.
Laura gave birth to Elizabeth.
1868 Struck a deal with a railroad, guaranteeing a certain volume in exchange for rebates.
1870 Formed the Standard Oil Company.
1871 Laura gave birth to Alta.
1872 Laura gave birth to Edith.
1874 Laura gave birth to John D Jr.
